Shared Accounts
Getting Started
Shared Accounts
Share an account with a partner, family member, or roommate and manage transactions together in real time.
Shared accounts let you manage finances together with a partner, family member, or roommate. Everyone sees the same transactions in real time.
How to share an account
- Open the account you want to share — tap it on the Dashboard, or in
Settings → Accounts - Tap the
…menu in the top-right corner and chooseShare Account - In the iCloud sharing sheet, choose whether people can make changes or only view, then send the invite link to the person you want to add
Sharing an account you own needs Premium; joining someone else’s shared account is free. The invite is sent via iCloud — the recipient needs to have Lode installed and be signed into iCloud.
Once the account is shared, the same menu item reads Manage Shared Account. Everyone in the account is listed under Participants on the account’s page, and the owner can swipe a participant to Remove them.
Joining a shared account
Tap the invite link on your iPhone or iPad. Lode opens and joins the account, and the shared account appears alongside your personal ones.
What everyone sees
Once an account is shared, all participants see the same transactions, bills, and balance. Any transaction added by one person shows up for the others as soon as iCloud syncs it.
You can always tell who added a transaction — the author’s name appears next to each entry from other participants, and in Added by on the transaction’s page.
What stays personal
Budgets are not shared. Each person sets their own budget limits independently. Your budgets are visible only to you.
Trips are personal too: a trip belongs to whoever created it, and the people you share an account with don’t see it. What they spend during your trip counts toward it only if you turn on Travelling together for that trip.
To keep a single entry private, turn on Hide from Others when adding or editing a transaction in a shared account. Other participants won’t see it, though it still counts toward the account’s balance.
Notifications
When someone else adds a transaction to a shared account, you’ll get a notification. You can turn this off in Settings → Notifications → Shared Account Activity.
Leaving a shared account
As a participant: open the account, tap the … menu in the top-right corner, and choose Leave Account. You lose access to the shared account, and the transactions you added are copied to a new private account in your Lode.
As the owner: open the account’s … menu and tap Stop Sharing. All participants lose access, and the account with all its data stays in your Lode. No data is lost.
